Hey oppos. I am continuing my life of perpetual car shopping. I have found a 2001 Honda s2k with a hard top that currently sits at 135k miles. The car is in overall good shape and I certainly enjoy the ride in it. The dealership selling it had it priced at 13k.... I currently have them down to 10k and they replace the clutch and with what appears to be more wiggle room on the price. For a car with this many miles and an interior and exterior that I would say lands somewhere between good and very good on the kBB scale what would you think would be a fair price. I would go off kbb but the car is a little more sought after and kbb doesn’t do much to take that into account. And since it has the hardtop done that would ultimately save me 2-3 grand doing it myself. There doesn’t seem to be much else wrong with the car.... Minor cosmetic shit and the Carfax is clean.
Thanks for any input!

Hmmm ... it is as near as makes no difference a 15 year old car. Are they offering a warranty? You might want to negotiate that. And have a second set of eyes with you next time you look at it. Someone who has no skin in the game.
Otherwise, what a fantastic ride. Never driven one, but how much fun would that be?!

I don’t see a question here?

I dunno... There could be more wrong with it than just a clutch. 10k just seems a little low for those things...

I see no glaring issues based on what you’ve said. As long as it drives well then that’s a pretty decent price for an s2000.

Yeah its been a dream car of mine for a while. I have enough to buy one in perfect condition but I just don’t want to spend that much and I figure with the hard top its saving me a lot of money I would have to spend on getting it done on a car I’d pay far more for. This means I can budget for that stupid fix I didn’t expect... I told the dealership I am at more around 8k and surprisingly the salesman agreed that was better (a Honda guy) but just hasn’t gotten the sales manager on board yet. I figure 10k with a new clutch is already a pretty decent price... If I could get to 8or 9 I think I would pull the trigger. I just had a horrible experience with an e30 so im a bit gunshy

I was just going to ask what you meant but then I saw your second post. If I don’t go for it I certainly will... I’m a little nervous just because I just had an awful experience with an e30 that I was barely able to claw my way out of.

Do it, the s2k is only gaining value.

It’s a hardtop, so cling to it like dear life and thank the lord that they’re offering you such a good price.

At the end of the day it is still a Honda. My ‘91 CRX Si was dead reliable, although I only put 12K on it during college. It’s not like every village smithy can fix it, but it’s not that difficult for the average mechanic. Get someone without the rose-colored-glasses (i.e., not you) to check it out. Then go. Then let me know when you’re near NYC so I can drive it.
